Nightflight – The album on the floppy disk

A few months ago, I found a full album of MIDIs on a floppy disk. I wrote these songs in 2004 and completely forgot about them, when I got my first DAW. Now I turned these gems into full production. An album full of dream house and dream dance nostalgia from the 1990s. I found a floppy disc with a full album I could not believe my eyes and ears, when I found a floppy disk with an album full of songs from 2004. It has been a bit of an adventure to borrow a floppy disk drive and load all these projects into my music software. 9 of 12 MIDI files were fully arranged songs that only lacked of proper instrumentation and production. The other songs were loops that went nowhere, but this is fine for me. If you ever wondered how it all started – here is a screenshot from Anvil Studio, a free MIDI software, similar to the one I used to create music. My Facebook community encouraged me to give my fully disk album a second chance and fully produce them, though I told myself to step away from electronic dance music as I do not identify with it for many years already. Producing these songs were a tough journey through my early teenage years, where I listened to dream house and trance music all day. These melodies are simple and catchy, and far away from the complex and dark music I write today. It has been worth the ride, because my discography feels complete. Also, I am very happy with the result. The meaning behind the cover and title At first, I considered the original floppy disk to be the cover of the album, but I did not enjoy the association with 8bit music. So I decided to take a shoot from the airport, where my musical journey started. The title “Nightflight” is a nod to one of my favourite songs that I listened on my first flight, and that inspired me to start with music. Can you guess the song? Nebula – An album full of b sides

My album “Nebula” consists of electronic music that has been written in between “Trancemotion” and “Event Horizon”. It is a trip into the void, starting with positive dance tracks and ending up in the darkness you’d expect from “Event Horizon”. Though this album will be published on Bandcamp, December 6, I will date back the release date to January 26, 2015, because all songs were written and produced between 2004 and 2015. The cover image is shot by Felix, who also shot the photo for “Event Horizon”. Thanks a lot for your stunning artwork! As usual, I created a preview video on YouTube. This will give you a 10-minute overview of the album, that has a playing time of roughly 52 minutes. “Nebula” is now available on Bandcamp. There will be a listening party tonight. Celebrating my 20th anniversary, I decided to complete my discography. I found over a dozen songs in folders, that are not part of an album yet. Some songs were already online on YouTube, others had to be remastered completely. All my songs should have a home, a reliable source, that is available 24/7. That’s why I decided to upload “Nebula”, an album full of b-sides. You can pre-order “Nebula” exclusively on Bandcamp now. Unfortunately, I had to set up a price to make this album and link available before release on December 6. When the album is out, I will date it back to 2015 to avoid confusion of my discography.

Angel In Jeans (Naviára Remix)

My 20th anniversary remix album will drop in a week. You can listen to the Naviára remix of “Angel In Jeans” on Bandcamp and YouTube now. The lyrics of “Angel In Jeans” are about every day heroes who contribute something great to the society. The original song has been recorded with Caitlin Sigler and Garrett Kirby and is part of my album “Going My Way”. Now, Naviára turned this song into a dance pop / slap house version. You can listen to the song on YouTube since Friday. Thanks a lot to all people who have been involved in the project. Please check out my two remix albums on Bandcamp, if you enjoy the music. Destination – My first song

Inspired by dance and trance music from the early 2000s, I composed a positive and catchy melody. I was 12 years old and didn’t have a clue about music production, but I was happy that I saved this draft as MIDI on a floppy disk, cause… Good things take time. When I wrote this melody, I used a MIDI sequencer instead of a DAW. I started music production one year later and worked on several tracks that are part of my first album “Trancemotion“. However, “Destination” has been planned for that album, but all my attempts failed. I didn’t find the right sounds, the off-bass was not aggressive enough, and I decided to quit dance music and continue with uplifting trance. More than 15 years later, I teamed up with Thomas You to produce the version this song deserved. He has more experience in dance, hands up and hardstyle. During our collaboration, I learned, that arranging dance music is a different thing than I expected. You have to care about reverb, sidechaining and many layers of bass. Every genre has its specifics. With hindsight, the title sounds a bit ironic, cause “Destination” has not been the destination of my music – It’s been the beginning. It was fun to produce a very old song in a style I’d never do again. You can find our version from 2017 on YouTube.
