Nocturnal – Back to 2000s dream dance

Since November, I have been working on a very special album. I rescued a floppy disk from the year 2004 with a dozen MIDI files on it. And one of them is song “Nocturnal” that releases today. My social media followers have been victims of how I found a long-lost floppy disk from the year 2004. After carefully analysing its contents, I realized it contained songs I had composed in a MIDI tracker. Since raw MIDI files depend on the sound card and can’t be directly published, I decided to fully produce them. To stay true to the retro aesthetic, I challenged myself to use the oldest gear in my collection. This is how “Nocturnal”, a song blending dream house music and dream dance vibes, started its incredible journey. “Nocturnal” is the original title of a blend of dream dance and epic trance music that has been quite prominent in the 2000s. I could not believe that I wrote this melody many years before my all-time favourite trance hymn “Adagio of Life”, but it has a very similar style. Seems like I have been longing for epic trance ever since I started to write songs. The single comes in three versions. The original version of “Nocturnal” will be part of the upcoming dream house / dream dance album, but there is also a club mix and a remix from my friend The Primary Phase Principle, who is very much into post-industrial and dark wave. The funny thing about this release is that neither he knows the original version of this song. Nobody but me knows how my album sounds, and I look forward to the Bandcamp Listening Party with you! Previously unreleased remixes

During September, I uploaded some previously unreleased remixes of my songs on my YouTube channel. This blogpost explains some additional details. Neotokyo (Der Makrophag Remix) The Austrian music producer Der Makrophag turned my song “Neotokyo” from the album “Event Horizon” into a dystopic club tune. Japanese world music meets psytrance and goa. You can listen to the remix on YouTube and SoundCloud. Further works of this artist are available on his SoundCloud. Dramatic Ocean (Joseph Rubiano Bootleg) Joseph Rubiano is a Columbian music producer who focussed on liquid and soulful drum’n’bass. He established his label Behind The Sun Recordings and remixed my song “Dramatic Ocean” recently. You can listen and download it via YouTube, SoundCloud and Bandcamp. The Awakening (Terry Sykes Remix) You may know this name from the tracklist of my first single “Lost Letter”, where he handed in a festival edm remix. For “The Awakening” he created another excellent blend of epic trance, soundtrack and festival edm that you can listen on my YouTube channel The Awakening (Mr. Mo Beat’s Wake Up Remix) Mr. Mo Beat remixed my Epic Trance song into a rather calm and minimalistic electro song. If you like experimental electronic beats, you may enjoy his remix a lot. You can also find it on YouTube. Thank you so much for remixing my songs and being part of this project. Adagio of Life – A melancholic trance tribute

Adagio of Life is an epic trance tribute about the beauty of life and transience. I have written this epic trance hymn in 2005. This melancholic masterpiece contains a theme that consists of sixteen measures. Its background is very interesting since it intentionally reminds of the golden era of trance. Adagio of Life is a tribute to my favourite song First, let me explain the name of this song. It is no secret that Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings (1938) deeply influenced my music. There are plenty of great melodies out there, but Adagio for Strings is heavily loaded with emotion. There is no other piece of music, which lets me fall in love and cry at the same time. Adagio for Strings is my favourite piece of music for more than 15 years. I am sure, that my admiration for this song will stay for a long time. Some of you may not know the original, but the versions and remixes of Tiesto (2004) and Ferry Corsten (1999). So, Adagio of Life is a tribute to my favourite song. Why the golden era of trance led to sophisticated melodies There are only a few trance songs with a significant long melody and most of them were released during the golden age of trance (1998 – 2005). Just to name a few: Ferry Corsten’s Remix of Adagio for Strings (16 measures), Airwave from Rank 1 (16 measures) or Out of the blue from System F (also 16 measures). Most trance hymns have themes which last 8 measures. One nice example is The Sound of Goodbye from Perpetuous Dreamer. During the golden age of trance, people were used to listen electronic music outside the clubs. Melodies became longer and more sophisticated, ensuring that everybody is in a state of trance. That’s where the name of this genre came from. Arranging a song into parts Experience has shown, that melodies of 8 or more measures can not be memorised easily. This magic number is due to the arrangement of songs in blocks, more specifically, parts. Typical song parts are 16, 32 or 64 measures long. The shorter the melody, the often it can be repeated during a part. The other practical reason is the song length. For broadcasting a song has to be in between 2:50 and 3:40 minutes long. Music producers and songwriters have to shorten their songs into radio cuts without missing an essential part like the intro, verse, refrain or bridge. It is easier to shorten a song into radio length, if your parts are only 4 or 8 measures long. It happened, that some radio stations played full-length (!) versions of the songs, though. These days this is seldom the case. Adagio of Life was not created for broadcast. It is not a hymn for the dance floor. It is a piece of music to sit back and relax. Adagio of Life is trance for connoisseurs. Looking back to the golden age of trance, it does not matter, that the theme has 16 measures. Vivid remix culture Now it’s time for some gratitude. Epic Trance Single Dramatic Ocean released

On March 15th my 3rd single will be available on online stores. Dramatic Ocean is an epic trance song released by the German trance indie label Vectiva Recordings. Otto Uplifting created a powerful uplifting trance hymn, whereas Joseph Di Mind offers a liquid drum and bass remix. Epic Trance Debut The Awakening

My epic trance debut single The Awakening has been released on the German trance label Vectiva Recordings. The song is now available at several mp3 online stores. The single includes 4 remixes made by JayB, Dreameye and Eyonics, reaching from epic trance and classic trance to current club hymns. You can find all previews on YouTube.
