Now it’s official: together with Christopher, I’m launching the online band “Flawed Theorem”. How it all came about, and what we’ll be releasing soon, you can read up here. If you have been following my website or music profiles for a while, you might have come across Christopher Matthew Smith before. On my album “Going My Way”, we recorded “At your command”, an epic prog rock track with numerous time signature changes. Over the following years, we created many more songs ranging between alternative rock, progressive rock, and metal. All of them felt cohesive, like they belonged together. We held them back, thinking they might work for an album. Last summer, we finally met in person and decided not just to make an album, but to form a band. It took us several months to come up with a band name, and then things moved pretty quickly: logo design, social media channels, mastering songs and searching for artwork. Flawed Theorem is now officially the progressive rock / metal band formed by Christopher and me. Alongside composition, arrangement, and production, I will also play synthesizers and guitar. Christopher will be writing lyrics and providing vocals on all tracks. If you’re into Tool, System of a Down, Opeth, or Katatonia, you might enjoy our song. Other influences include Coheed and Cambria, Led Zeppelin, and Pearl Jam. Since I currently have to take a break from making music, we decided two weeks ago to finally go public with the project. We would really appreciate your support, so feel free to drop a like, follow, or comment on our profiles: https://www.facebook.com/flawedtheoremhttps://www.instagram.com/flawedtheoremhttps://open.spotify.com/intl-de/artist/3aOJWxo4UujSzJ3DLHyJvehttps://soundcloud.com/flawedtheoremhttps://flawedtheorem.bandcamp.com You can already pre-save our debut single “Petals”. As a nice side effect, you will also be able to follow our brand-new profiles on streaming platforms. They are currently set private, so we cannot forward links.

Our new symphonic metal song deals with chances and challenges of transformation. At some point of our life, we have to face changes, or metaphorically speaking, embrace the storm. This song has been recorded in an international team and is now available on all platforms. As some of you may know, I am a big fan of metal music. Especially symphonic and progressive metal make my heart beat faster, because of its complexity and emotion. I always wanted to write a song like that, and in 2021 I simply did. Some hours later, Gabrielle Gold, who is also a big fan of the genre, sent me some great lyrics and a draft for the vocal melody. This big arrangement needed a skilled band, including a classically trained vocalist. It has been extremely hard to find the right people, which is why it took nearly 4 years to record the song. Our patience rewarded us with a badass team consisting of Nadia Selvaggi on the vocals, who originally came from classical and church music, but has a big heart for rock, metal and trip hop – Sebastien Jean on guitars, whose solo project Elirah’s Cross stands for complex progressive metal with big solos. I am happy that this team found together and turned our draft into something huge. Lyrically, “Embrace the Storm” is about changes and overcoming inner resistance. You can clearly read that Gabrielle’s writing is inspired by nature, and she used the metaphor to create an epic imagery. Musically, this song is quite complex with multiple key changes, triplet meters and intricate counter melodies. We recorded over 40 tracks of pure epicness. “Embrace the Storm” is now available on all streaming platforms and Bandcamp. Please listen, share or simply write a comment on SoundCloud or YouTube. We appreciate every listen.

Our new song “Dorian Gray” tells the story of Oscar Wilde’s classic novel “The picture of Dorian Gray” as an epic progressive metal hymn. A must-have for everybody who digs djent and shouts! This song is eerie and heavy. Turning a novel into a song I didn’t plan to put one of my favourite novels, “The Picture of Dorian Gray” into a metal song. It just happened while working on a djent song in dorian mode. The chorus popped into my mind and worked well with the story of Dorian Gray. So I decided to tell Oscar Wilde’s novel and focus on the dark sides of the story. I didn’t want Dorian to be a naive hero, when I always felt like he’s a narcissistic psychopath. Therefore, this song should be super heavy. The Picture of Dorian Gray If you haven’t read the novel… One day, Basil paints a portrait of the rich and handsome Dorian Gray. Lord Henry falls in love with the picture and wants to meet Dorian in person. He influences him with his hedonistic lifestyle. Dorian realizes his beauty and wishes, that his portrait ages instead of him. After some infamous actions, Dorian finds out that his wish has been granted. He lives a wasteful and hedonistic life, and does everything he wants to do, leading to the murder of the painter Basil. The world around Dorian turns darker, and his portrait looks ugly. In paranoia, Dorian destroys his portrait and dies. In the lifetime of Oscar Wilde, “The Picture of Dorian Gray” has been a very scandalous read. Today, the book is interpreted as hedonism, dandy lifestyle and psychological decay. Thanks to the band! I am very proud of the arrangement and composition of “Dorian Gray”. This song offers everything a progressive metal song needs. I am very lucky to collaborate with an international dream team. You may know I AM MEADOWS (vocals) from “Don’t tell me if it hurts”, and Chad Lenig (drums) from “Wrench In The Works”. I dig Against The Tempest (guitar, bass) metal core song a lot. You turned this song into a badass beast I could never think of. Thanks a lot! I bet that these heavy riffs and shouts will hit you super hard. Nuff said. You can listen to our song on YouTube and SoundCloud. The lyrics are full of explicit content and is not safe for work. If you dare, listen loud! If you ever wondered where I got this illustration from: I’ve drawn it. I couldn’t resist drawing a picture of Dorian Gray while talking about this book. Unfortunately, I forgot to record the process. Drawing this pictures took about 6 hours. For the cover, I wanted it to look like a movie poster.

My brand-new studio album “Going My Way” will be released on July 1st. It’s a journey of pop, rock and metal music, containing most songs I uploaded in the last months and bonus material. If you cannot wait until July 1st, I got some amazing news for you: The Bandcamp pre-order of “Going My Way” starts today! If you order, you can download some songs in full quality. The remaining will be shipped on July 1st in any file format you like (wav, flac, mp3 or as stream in the Bandcamp app). You only have to log in again and fetch the content. Besides 45 minutes of playing time, you’ll receive a booklet, printable inlays for jewel case and a bonus track. About the album “Going My Way” Sometimes it is better to close a chapter a start a new one. After publishing “Event Horizon” I decided to leave electronic music production, not knowing where my muse may take me. Not being the performing artist has been a bit bewildering for me and my followers, but I discovered my talents in composition, arrangement and lyrics in different styles of music. I’m going my way. Not matching any expectations, just do what I like. This is the context of the album title. “Going My Way” is a wild ride from pop over rock to metal. This journey would never be possible without 23 talented musicians from all around the world who helped me to record vocals and all instruments I cannot perform. On this album, you will mostly hear me as composer, arranger, lyricist and producer – not as performer, though I played some keys here and there. Lyrically, “Going My Way” deals with inner struggles and finding back inner strength. As this album is VERY diverse, I strongly recommend listening to every song before saying that my new music doesn’t match your taste. I am sure that there is at least one song you may enjoy. Take a look into the tracklist You guys and girls are incredible to work with. Every song is such a gem, that I gave up on the plan of hiding some songs for album purposes. There is no song that is not worth a single! Let’s take a deeper look, what made it to the album: Wrench In The Works Pyromancer Fight For You Weight Going My Way Angel In Jeans Promises A.L.E.X. Don’t tell me if it hurts Where does it end? At Your Command The album starts with metal, ends with metal and has some pop in between. The list of all involved artists is too lengthy to post here. Please take a look into my Bandcamp or my discography instead. But I want to say thanks to ALL of you! Lessons learned Changing from electronic music to handmade music is harder than I expected. Every instrument has a particular sound and range, and not every key is good to perform. It has been hard for me to reset my mind, because not every mixing technique I learned from electronic music works in the acoustic world and vice versa. New horizons opened to me as a songwriter. No restriction and boundaries in terms of key changes and time signatures. This is something I don’t want to miss. Writing songs in many genres has been so much fun, that I will continue.

Collaborating with plenty of musicians from different genres, we wrote a progressive rock opera dealing with different aspects of truth. How did write a song with 8 people that show our individual strengths and still sounds like a collaboration? Everything started with a piano theme and a couple of chords I provided for the group. Everybody could write new parts or record whatever instrument. Our group consists of multiple musicians coming from pop, rock, metal, ambient and soundtrack. So I decided to leave the genre open and let people do whatever they like. The individual parts and melodies were arranged into a 10-minute progressive rock epic. The song consists of several chapters with musical themes and lyrics that all deal with the search for truth. You can listen to and download our song on Myownmusic (German), SoundCloud or YouTube. The full credits are available in my discography of side projects. It’s been my first time to work in such a big group and letting ideas flow. In the end, I could not even say who wrote which part or which instrument, because everybody added something to the project and pushed it into their direction. I was the arranger and producer, but I also authored some parts. The whole group did a good job in composing, improvising and recording. Thank you so much for being part of the project. We learned a lot about ourselves, both musically and personal. This won’t be our last project, for sure!
