With “Toward Tomorrow,” we’re releasing a melancholic song about alcohol and drug abuse. You can find it on all music platforms now. “Toward Tomorrow” is a song about a man rediscovering himself after years of alcohol and drug abuse. It is the story of a man abused in childhood by his father who falls in with the wrong crowd in high school and starts to use alcohol and drugs to deal with his emotional pain. He hits bottom through not being able to work and having to live homeless off the land in the California desert. This song is a mournful elegy to a life that was almost taken away, but now starting to find itself and reclaim its worth. The song was written several months ago when Andrew Russell and Michael Gutierrez-May participated in a random collaboration game. This time, Andrew played all the instruments, while Michael wrote the lyrics. It was a new experience for me to be involved solely as a producer and arranger. It went surprisingly well, as I already worked on several projects with Andrew and appreciate Michael’s songwriting. We didn’t want to keep “Toward Tomorrow” to ourselves any longer and have finally uploaded it to all streaming platforms. It’s also available on YouTube, of course!

Today, the last song of the year is being released. With “The Secret of the Future”, a gothic rock ballad that has been floating in my head for years, has finally come to life. It’s one of those songs that will carry you away emotionally. The idea came up in 2005, but I was never able to realize the song the way I heard it in my head. Part of the reason was that I couldn’t play guitar back then. Another reason was that it needed an expressive, unmistakable voice. You can hear the original version on the B-sides album “Electro Static”. Now, the song has finally become what I envisioned. Sonia Hutchinson, the lead vocalist of the band Crowsilver, contributed the lyrics and vocals, inspired by the title itself. The song took on a powerful life of its own and encourages you to take responsibility for your own future. You can now listen to “The Secret of the Future””” on all streaming platforms. As always, we appreciate your comments, streams, and reposts. With that in mind, we wish you a peaceful Christmas season and a good start into the new year!

“Carry Me Home” is about finding God at the brink of despair and embracing that encounter as a life-changing experience. Together with Cintale (vocals) and Garrett Kirby (guitars) we release this song today on all platforms. “Carry Me Home” is one of these songs that just happen and feel right. It is written in a strange and unique scale between harmonic minor and major, that has a little bluesy touch. I never considered myself writing a Gospel, but it happened for a reason – and I am happy for the connections made. Couldn’t think of a better vocalist than Cintale, who is home in R&B, soul and Christian music – and with Garry on the guitars everything is fluffy and funky. Lyrically, “Carry me home” is about finding God shortly before it’s too late (in whatever regard), and embracing this encounter as a positive and life-changing moment, finally finding inner peace and unity. It’s a personal song, as I struggled with philosophy and religion for many years. In the back of my head, I always knew, that there is something or someone spreading the message of hope, that you’re not alone and everything happens for a reason. Though “Carry me home” focusses on Christian images, I believe that no matter which culture you’re born into, or which God(s) you believe, that there is a moment in life, where spirituality finds you. A moment of awakening and realization, that something is bigger than you and everything you can imagine. As usual, you can find “Carry Me Home” on all platforms, including Bandcamp and YouTube.

A few months ago, I found a full album of MIDIs on a floppy disk. I wrote these songs in 2004 and completely forgot about them, when I got my first DAW. Now I turned these gems into full production. An album full of dream house and dream dance nostalgia from the 1990s. I found a floppy disc with a full album I could not believe my eyes and ears, when I found a floppy disk with an album full of songs from 2004. It has been a bit of an adventure to borrow a floppy disk drive and load all these projects into my music software. 9 of 12 MIDI files were fully arranged songs that only lacked of proper instrumentation and production. The other songs were loops that went nowhere, but this is fine for me. If you ever wondered how it all started – here is a screenshot from Anvil Studio, a free MIDI software, similar to the one I used to create music. My Facebook community encouraged me to give my fully disk album a second chance and fully produce them, though I told myself to step away from electronic dance music as I do not identify with it for many years already. Producing these songs were a tough journey through my early teenage years, where I listened to dream house and trance music all day. These melodies are simple and catchy, and far away from the complex and dark music I write today. It has been worth the ride, because my discography feels complete. Also, I am very happy with the result. The meaning behind the cover and title At first, I considered the original floppy disk to be the cover of the album, but I did not enjoy the association with 8bit music. So I decided to take a shoot from the airport, where my musical journey started. The title “Nightflight” is a nod to one of my favourite songs that I listened on my first flight, and that inspired me to start with music. Can you guess the song? My floppy disc album Nightflight is available now “Nightflight” is now available on all streaming platforms. YouTube will join later. I highly encourage you to support the album on Bandcamp, because that’s where indie artists receive 85% of the revenue and not some lousy 0.003 cents per listen. Tomorrow night, I will host a Bandcamp listening party. Hope to see you there!

Here is a brand-new song from the studio. As every year, we teamed up with four random musicians to create a song based on four tracks. Here is this year’s outcome! One of my personal highlights is a songwriting game I play with indie musicians: write a song with randomly assigned musicians. Like on the four track cassettes, everybody contributes one instrument to a song. Nobody knows which instrument the next person will add, you could end up in whatever genre and writing about whatever absurdity. This time, RobinLeaf started with vocals. She has been inspired by psychology and wrote a lyric based on an avoidant character who is working on their flaws. I harmonized her vocal recording with a piano, envisioning a dramatic ballad. When Ken Mattsson added a harmonic layer of vocals, I decided to turn it into a duet. Last but not least, Paul Benham added soundscape magic with the guitars. Thank you so much for joining the game and contributing your parts. For now, our song “Trying to Be” is only available on YouTube. Robin will record her version with a ukulele that may use completely different chords. We are so psyched to hear this version as well!
