This new progressive rock song from Flawed Theorem questions the very nature of art. When generative AI started to create art, everybody had to find a way to understand and process the shifts in technology and society both. As an artist, who took years to learn how to paint a realistic portrait, it hurts that AI can do that in a few seconds, based on millions of pictures, and most of them used without permission. Do we show appreciation when we use that technology? Or are we silently destroying artistry? Several months ago, I woke up with a dark vision of this world. Art is fully replaced by generative AI. Instead of painting pictures, playing instruments or performing dances, humanity finds themselves in the role of consumers that can create everything they can imagine. Art will lose its substance and credibility, as people forget about the process and emotions behind it. I reached out to Chris to write a lyric about my dark vision, and soon we figured that 7/8 is the right time signature to write an unsettling song. Its stumbling nature resonates well with the entangled emotions this topic creates for many of us. Will art survive, transform or die? Will we find a different way to express ourselves? The cover artwork of “The Dying of the Art” is taking from the Cleveland Museum. “Memento Mori” by William Michael Harnett shows a citation of Hamlet and all sorts of death related allegories. We chose this painting to remind ourselves, what are we truly spending our lives on. What will remain after we’re gone? And also, because a piece of classical art is a bold statement against today’s perfectly generated artworks. Our song “The Dying of the Art” is now available on all streaming services. A song completely free from AI, and is full of little mistakes and irregularities. A song, that talks about one of the most important topics of today’s world. Take 6 minutes to contemplate, and make up your mind.

“More Than I Pretend” was created in collaboration with Hamburg-based artist Morino. I’m happy about this release, as we have been appreciating each other’s music for several years. The song tells the story of an introverted person who notices everything, but rarely speaks up about it. This often leads to misunderstandings, which can prevent them from fully reaching their potential. Still waters run deep. Introverted people often understand far more than they are given credit for, and they rather act quietly than stepping into the spotlight. That’s exactly why the cover artwork for “More Than I Pretend” was designed to be loud and striking. It contrasts with what one might expect. This song is energetic, fast, and fun to listen. “More Than I Pretend” is now available on all major streaming platforms as well as Bandcamp.

This progressive metal song is not for the faint-hearted. Another headbanging tune from Flawed Theorem. When I teamed up with Christopher to write some prog metal, we unintentionally wrote two songs on the same day. Both songs are written in odd meters and have plenty of meter changes. It’s been fun to work on drumming patterns in 8/8 and 6/8 and phrasing the melodies. Christopher did an excellent job writing lyrics to my moody composition. We are super lucky that Robert joined as guitarist and bassist. His indie rock and punk rock influenced style just gave the song the rough heaviness it needed. Lyrically, “Under” describes a person in a mental emergency. How would it feel like to be unconscious to the outside world, but awake and alert inside? Would it be terrifying seeing the world fall apart in front of you, and losing control? We are very pleased to show you the result of an awesome collaboration. The song turned out heavier than my initial draft. I had a hard time mixing, because these guitars and screams made me bang my head. You can find our song on all streaming platforms, and also on YouTube, SoundCloud or Bandcamp. Please follow this link: https://too.fm/flawed-theorem-petals

In my previous post, I announced my new band project Flawed Theorem. Today we just released our first single, “Petals”. Read this post to find the link. Petals is a reflection on the quiet tension between hope and doubt. It takes inspiration from the familiar ritual of plucking petals one by one, caught in the question of “she loves me, she loves me not”. A simple act that can carry surprising emotional weight. Gentle acoustic sections give way to heavy riffs, mirroring the shift from inward reflection to the urge to act. In the very last moment you might ask yourself: When everything comes down to it, where will the final petal land? Christopher and I chose “Petals” as the first song because it’s one of our most accessible and radio ready songs. We did not want to bother you with an 8-minute song at first time, but we promise that this will happen someday soon! Everybody who pre-saved the song should be able to access it on their streaming platforms. If not, please follow this link again.

I am happy to announce that my album “Going My Way” is now available on all streaming platforms. If you always wanted to stream that album, go ahead and spin it! “Going My Way” is a wild ride through many different genres in between pop, rock and metal. The album has been recorded as online collaborations with 21 musicians. It’s one of my favourite albums, because it truly reflects my skills in songwriting, arrangement and production. “Going My Way” is the beginning of a new chapter, a chapter, where I’m not only tweaking knobs and automations in my DAW, but also play real instruments, write arrangements for full bands, contribute lyrics and co-write with talented folks all over the globe. It has been such a treat to work with so many talented musicians. Big shoutout to David Taro, Nate Gerry, Chad Lenig, I AM MEADOWS, Kelly Best, Roman Wreden, Michael Karns, Jason Challis, Garrett Kirby, Jordan Hirsch, Simon Ashby, Stefan Hartl, Gammafied, Caitlin Sigler, Kate Stanton, Rich Brewer, Ben Kohr, Alex Pinheiro, Stephan Kösters and Robert Cooperider (in no particular order). You will find many of these names in my later works! I highly encourage you to join the Bandcamp listening party tonight 8pm CEST and have a chit-chat with us. If you don’t find the time, you can find the album on all platforms. Here is a preview video on YouTube:
