Another headbanging tune from Flawed Theorem. When I teamed up with Christopher to write some prog metal, we unintentionally wrote two songs on the same day. Both songs are written in odd meters and have plenty of meter changes. It’s been fun to work on drumming patterns in 8/8 and 6/8 and phrasing the melodies. Christopher did an excellent job writing lyrics to my moody composition. We are super lucky that Robert joined as guitarist and bassist. His indie rock and punk rock influenced style just gave the song the rough heaviness it needed. Lyrically, “Under” describes a person in a mental emergency. How would it feel like to be unconscious to the outside world, but awake and alert inside? Would it be terrifying seeing the world fall apart in front of you, and losing control? We are very pleased to show you the result of an awesome collaboration. The song turned out heavier than my initial draft. If you always wanted to stream that album, go ahead and spin it! “Going My Way” is a wild ride through many different genres in between pop, rock and metal. The album has been recorded as online collaborations with 21 musicians. It’s one of my favourite albums, because it truly reflects my skills in songwriting, arrangement and production. “Going My Way” is the beginning of a new chapter, a chapter, where I’m not only tweaking knobs and automations in my DAW, but also play real instruments, write arrangements for full bands, contribute lyrics and co-write with talented folks all over the globe. It has been such a treat to work with so many talented musicians. There is a special dish that hits you differently. I chopped some beats and fried the vocals with a very tasty guitar riff. This stir-fry will hit you harder than you are able to chop veggies! The whole fuzz started because of the ambiguity of the word “fry” in cooking and screaming. Metalheads will know the reference to a great song, which is definitely not about cooking. I love what I cooked here and like to thank hobby chef and guitarist Dan Vaillancourt who turned my weirdest ideas into shredding guitars, even adding a super cool solo, I have never heard before. A must-have for everybody who digs djent and shouts! This song is eerie and heavy. Turning a novel into a song I didn’t plan to put one of my favourite novels, “The Picture of Dorian Gray” into a metal song. It just happened while working on a djent song in dorian mode. The chorus popped into my mind and worked well with the story of Dorian Gray. So I decided to tell Oscar Wilde’s novel and focus on the dark sides of the story. I didn’t want Dorian to be a naive hero, when I always felt like he’s a narcissistic psychopath. Therefore, this song should be super heavy. The Picture of Dorian Gray If you haven’t read the novel… One day, Basil paints a portrait of the rich and handsome Dorian Gray. Lord Henry falls in love with the picture and wants to meet Dorian in person. He influences him with his hedonistic lifestyle. Dorian realizes his beauty and wishes, that his portrait ages instead of him. After some infamous actions, Dorian finds out that his wish has been granted. He lives a wasteful and hedonistic life, and does everything he wants to do, leading to the murder of the painter Basil. The world around Dorian turns darker, and his portrait looks ugly. In paranoia, Dorian destroys his portrait and dies. In the lifetime of Oscar Wilde, “The Picture of Dorian Gray” has been a very scandalous read. Today, the book is interpreted as hedonism, dandy lifestyle and psychological decay. Thanks to the band! I am very proud of the arrangement and composition of “Dorian Gray”. This song offers everything a progressive metal song needs. I am very lucky to collaborate with an international dream team. You may know I AM MEADOWS (vocals) from “Don’t tell me if it hurts”, and Chad Lenig (drums) from “Wrench In The Works”. I dig Against The Tempest (guitar, bass) metal core song a lot. You turned this song into a badass beast I could never think of. Thanks a lot! I bet that these heavy riffs and shouts will hit you super hard. Nuff said. Unfortunately, I forgot to record the process. Drawing this pictures took about 6 hours. For the cover, I wanted it to look like a movie poster.

We started as a jam session and ended with a nu metal track called “Heavy Jam”. “Heavy Jam” is a good example of what can happen when musicians from all over the world meet and put their influences into a melting pot. Nahlej, who has a background in alternative hip hop and lo-fi music, sent me a guitar and bass jam. Rearranging his stems, I added my alternative rock and metal influence to push the instrumentation further to nu metal. A style I wanted to try since the early 2000s. Later, Simon, who is rooted in blues rock and hard rock helped me with the heavy riffs added his own flavour in the solos and licks. Last but not least, StevieJ added lyrics and rap to our song and created the missing link to our working title “Heavy Jam”. While I considered this title to be a working title for a jam session (improvisation) for a heavy song, StevieJ interpreted it as a mental state of somebody who’s dealing with low self-esteem or mental health issues. All thoughts running through a depression or anxiety loaded mind create a sticky, heavy jam. But instead of fixing the issue, they’d prefer to take tablets and smoke their way through this. The artwork has been generated with DALL E 2, but I invested some work cleaning it up and adding details with a graphics tablet. We looked for something modern and expressionistic, that I couldn’t draw. If you’re deeper into art, you will know why this picture has a crown and leaves.
