Beneath the Shell – Of weltschmerz and dread

While Daniel and I were working on “Into the Abyss” another song emerged. “Beneath the Shell” expresses the fear of existence, the dread of everyday life and waiting for metamorphosis.

“Beneath the Shell” is one of the few songs where the lyrics have been written first. Inspired by Franz Kafka’s novels, especially “The Metamorphosis”, this song reflects dark thoughts. What if we are meaningless insects? Does this perspective as bug lurking into different lives do any good? Both musically and lyrically, “Beneath the Shell” does not shy away from strong language and dreadful images of weltschmerz. That’s why we decided against a mild version.

This time I wrote the lyrics and let Daniel record the song the way he hard it. In the end, I added some layers of synthesizers and produced the song. For me, it was a very interesting project, because I rarely have the opportunity to work with extended range instruments. Thank you for that!

As usual, you can find the song on all streaming platforms and Bandcamp. I would highly appreciate it if you could leave a comment on SoundCloud or YouTube, as these are the only platforms for that.
